Chitwan National Park

jungle safari in chitwan

Chitwan National Park is listed in the UNESCO world heritage sites. Located in the subtropical inner lowlands in the central south of the country, this area of sal and riverine forests and grasslands houses more than 45 species of mammals, as many species of amphibians and reptiles and 450 species of birds. Chitwan’s fauna highlights are definitely the endangered Bengal Tiger, the one horned rhino and the Asian elephant. Travelers have a few options to choose in how they will explore the park. Chitwan takes pride in its elephant back safari, considered to be the best safari of its kind in Asia. Travelers have the chance to explore the wilderness , while riding on the back of a trained elephant which will protect them from the unpredictable jungle. Guided walks in the Chitwan forests are also possible for people who want to get up close and personal with the wilderness .

For travelers who don’t have much time, jeep safaris are also available, bringing them to the heart of the jungle in a very short time. As the park’s natural borders are the rivers Narayani and Rapti, travelers also have the chance of going canoeing in one of the two rivers and experience a whole new perspective of the jungle, but also, if lucky enough, see crocodiles roaming in their natural habitat! Even though it is famous for its flora and fauna, Chitwan National Park does not lack on culture and tradition. There are many Tharu villages that perfectly showcase the culture and traditions of the people living in this part of Nepal. Visitors can visit these villages and experience the life of locals. All of these activities can give you a good overall picture of the life and beauties of Chitwan National Park!
