The Manaslu is probably one
of the hardest treks in
Nepal. The perpendicular
walls of the Budhi Gandaki
Valley and the rough and
steep trail makes this trek
one of the most difficult
trek in Nepal.You have to
trek up and down over ridges
or onto shelves to bypass
cliffs which is just the
wasted climbing. At lower
elevations the valley is
unpleasantly hot and humid,
even in October and
November. The trek is remote
and has no rescue facilities
or opportunities to bail out
if you are tired. There are
rough bhattis along the
route, but few facilities
that might conceivably be
called a trekkers’ hotel
between soti khola and
Tilke.The best season to
trek in this region is
October to May and the
maximum altitude of this
trek is 5100m.
The Tibetan immigrants in
the early 1600s are the
inhabitants of this region.
The culture, speech and the
dress are all the influence
from Tibet. In this region,
we can still find the
picture of ancient trade
relation to Tibet. The
Chinese beer and the Chinese
cigarettes are found more
frequently than Nepali beer
and cigarettes. Because of
the strong Tibetan influence
in this region, most places
have Tibetan names. Where
possible, the Tibetan name
is shown in the brackets,
but the more common Nepali
name appears throughout the
text.
The entire geographical
formation of the Valley and
the rich ancient culture and
the hardest mountain life
makes the trek astonishing
one.
